April Summit at Maasai Mara University a Great Success

More than 30 presentations and a lively debate with 100 participants gave valuable information about the challenges of the Maasai Mara

The 1st Maasai Mara Science and Development Action Summit took place 22.-23. April 2015. Maasai Mara University was beautifully decorated to welcome the many international and local speakers and guests and created a perfect setting for a lively dialogue and lots of knowledge sharing.

The ambitious program with more than 30 presentations illustrated the many challenges of the Maasai Mara from many different perspectives, thus giving valuable inputs to future research and development activities. The Summit was also the first time that a larger group of researchers and other founding members met to network and exchange ideas.

After the Summit 29 researchers and local stakeholders continued for a two day workshop and field trip to Mara North to experience the Mara first hand and develop ideas for a research and development program.

Karen Blixen Camp, a founding partner, co-hosted the workshop and field trips to the savannah of Mara North and the local village of Mararianda.

Next step is for the founding group to develop a Policy Paper describing the challenges identified and the reseach and development needed to support sustainable solutions in the future.

This Policy Paper will be ready primo June 2015 and then it will be distributed to a group of potential donors.
