The future depends on investments and choices we make now and part of these are philanthropic decisions. Therefore, a s a sector, philanthropy is uniquely positioned to contribute to transformative change and long-term benefit

It makes sense therefore to apply a futures lens to it. To guide this, the AU-CIFS Unesco Chair partnered with Philanthropy Europe Association, Philea to understand future trends relevant to philanthropy and a guide to using futures and foresight in philanthropic practice.

“Futures Philanthropy: Anticipation for the Common Good” is made up of four parts:

  • Foresight and philanthropy provides insights, cases and methodologies on how to embrace futures thinking to address present-day crises and support long-term transformative change
  • Futures of philanthropy showcases voices from the European philanthropy ecosystem, sharing questions and practices in seeking actionable paths to renew philanthropy for a changing world
  • Futures of Europe addresses the shifting landscape of Europe, exploring drivers of change, shifting priorities and technological progress, all inviting “what if” questions on the possible pathways for philanthropy
  • Applied futures philanthropy tools provides a selection of instruments methods that help philanthropy professionals apply futures practices to their own organisations and contexts.

The publication is a practical guide for foundation leaders, board members, philanthropy infrastructure practitioners, donors, advisors, philanthropy researchers and civil society professionals
