New member of the center team: Aukje Nieuwenhuis

Aukje Nieuwenhuis is a new postdoctoral researcher at ACLOS+. She completed her PhD thesis summer 2026 at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands), on Labor and Gender Economics. Her thesis focuses on various employment gender gaps (think about gaps in working hours, wages, and pensions), as well as occupational gender segregation, meaning that women remain underrepresented in higher-paying technical fields and overrepresented in lower-paying positions.

Before her PhD, she studied Econometrics and Financial Mathematics. Due to this background, her strength lies in the methodological side of empirical research. She enjoys applying various econometric techniques to large-scale data for causal analysis.

As she moves from Labor Economics into ACLOS+, she looks forward to extending her work on gender-related topics into questions about leadership and organizational sustainability: "I am especially interested in individual career trajectories: how earlier choices and events shape later career outcomes. Gender gaps in working hours and wages, as well as gendered occupational sorting, all eventually contribute to women’s underrepresentation in leadership positions, which in turn shapes the sustainability of organizations. I’m excited to use Danish register data to study these trajectories and their path dependencies.”
