Multiple Agents with Diverse Preferences: On Learning and Voting

Everyone is welcome!

Abstract
In stable environments, we can design decision structures “approaching perfection". All we need are the agents' value and screening functions. In uncertain environments, we can not follow the same procedure. We cannot assume ex-ante, which value function is good and which is bad. In uncertain environments, diverse opinions and points of view help and not hinder decision-making. But, when should we foster and not deter diversity? This study uses agent-based models to study the effect of diverse preferences in the decisions of a majority voting triad. This study lights a warning signal as it finds that diversity of preferences lowers exploration. Triads with diverse preferences, explore up to 30% less than triads with homogenous preferences – the structure studied by literature.
