Educational ABM for Theory of Science at BSS, AU

This model is a COVID-19 epidemiology and economics model that lets students explore how changing virological (incubation time, lethality, duration) and economic (productivity-related) and social behavioral assumptions change the outcomes of an epidemic both in terms of health and economy.

The model was created for use in the course Theory of Science, in collaboration with Associate Professor Carsten Bergenholtz at the Department of Management at Aarhus BSS. Students take on the role of policy advisors and try to optimize a variety of combinations of outcomes, minimizing the costs to society and the mortality rate, and trying to find the optimal balance between them. The overall goal is to give students an intuition about emergence and non-linearity, specifically tipping points and feedback loops.
