Abstract

Embracing Change: Reflecting on 50 Years of Academic Research and Leadership
Over the past five decades, we have witnessed remarkable changes that have redefined the landscape of academia in ways few could have predicted. The student revolution of 1968 marked a turning point in the history of higher education. One of the most remarkable transformations we have witnessed is the rapid evolution of technology. Further internationalization and globalization have become a fundamental paradigm within academia.

While the 1968 revolution emphasized democratic election of leaders, we have witnessed a gradual transition towards a more top-down autocratic leadership model in higher education. We have also witnessed a wave of new institutions, mergers, and closures, leading to a restructuring of higher education institutions.

From my experience within research and leadership I will reflect on these changes and what the future might bring both within academia but also more generally.
