On 18 November at 10:00, there will be an OSA seminar by Ralph Hamann, UCT Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, entitled

"Restricting vs. strengthening: The Covid-19 pandemic’s differential effects on companies’ sustainability strategies"

Abstract
It is important to assess how the Covid-19 crisis has been affecting companies’ sustainability strategies and practices, also because the literature raises ambiguous and contradictory expectations in this regard. Based on a comparative analysis of qualitative data on 26 companies in four African countries we develop a model, in which different configurations of Covid-19 impact, resource slack, and sustainability maturity result in four sustainability responses: restricting, maintaining, and two forms of strengthening (accelerating and leapfrogging). We thus show empirically how and why companies’ sustainability responses to the crisis include both restricting and strengthening, and this has implications for further research and for practice.

Everyone is welcome!
